We manage the whole process for you.
From the first application to your final order, we prepare every document, deal with the court, and give you tailored advice at each step.

Your application, prepared for you
We prepare your sole divorce or dissolution application, on the basis that the marriage has broken down irretrievably, and send it to you to approve.

Submitted to the court
We file your application with the court for issuing, and let you know as soon as it has been issued. If you select a joint option, then the court will send it to your spouse, and we will keep you updated on each step.

Your Conditional Order
When the time is right, we prepare and submit your statement and application for the Conditional Order (formerly Decree Nisi), and update you when the court has dealt with it.

Your Final Order
We prepare and submit the Final Order application (formerly Decree Absolute) that legally ends your marriage, and confirm once the court has finalised it.

Advice at every stage
Throughout, you receive copies of all court documents together with clear, tailored advice on each one, so you always know where things stand.
How long it takes
The law sets the pace.
Even a straightforward divorce runs to a timetable fixed by law. The minimum built-in waiting periods are:
20weeks
A reflection period after your application is issued, before you can apply for the Conditional Order.
6weeks + 1 day
A further wait after the Conditional Order before the Final Order can be applied for.
In practice most undisputed divorces take around seven to eight months from start to final order, depending on the court and how promptly both parties respond.
Good to know
What sits outside the fixed fee.
The fixed fee covers the divorce itself. So that everyone knows exactly where they stand, these are handled separately, and we will always give you a clear quote first.
- Your finances. Dividing money, property and pensions is a separate matter with its own advice and fee. It is often the most important part, and we can help with it.
- Arrangements for children. Where children live and how time is shared is dealt with separately.
- Disputed divorces. The fixed fee is for undisputed, sole or joint applications. If your spouse disputes the divorce, we will talk you through your options and costs.
- The court fee. The court charges its own fee to process a divorce — currently £628 (correct at the time of writing) — payable in addition to our fixed fee.

For complete transparency, here is exactly what the fixed fee does and does not cover, and how anything outside it is charged.
Included in the £990 fixed fee
Preparation of your divorce or dissolution application for approval; sending the draft to your spouse or their solicitor if you choose; agreed amendments requested within 14 days where in your best interests; filing the application for issuing; preparation and submission of your Conditional Order and Final Order applications; and copies of all court documentation with tailored advice on each, throughout the process.
Not included in the fixed fee
The court fee (currently £628, correct at the time of writing). Any advice relating to your finances, children or any other family law issue. The cost of any First Steps advice. Where sufficient proof of service is not received, the costs and time of arranging a process server to serve documents personally on your spouse. Resending paperwork if your spouse fails to respond to correspondence. Any change of fact, or a second or subsequent redrafting of the statement of case. Any negotiation with your spouse or their solicitor over who pays the divorce costs. Any advice if your spouse disputes the divorce.
Fees and payment
The fixed fee is not refundable, even if you later choose not to proceed with your divorce. Any work we do for you that is not included in the fixed fee will be charged at our standard hourly rate, which we will always make clear to you before that work is carried out.
